Our general strengths as a university
Modern yet traditional
Modern university with a rich tradition
A relatively young university - we celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2019 - VUB is built on the ancient foundations of ULB, which was founded in 1834. We follow the principles of the Enlightenment: critical thinking, free enquiry and radical humanism. A modern environment with a rich tradition.

Vibrant campus in Brussels
Life at the VUB runs to the rhythm of Brussels, our diverse and multicultural capital, where most of our campuses are found. Are you interested in a medical programme? (Medicine, Biomedical or Pharmaceutical Sciences). Then come to the VUB Health Campus in Jette. Most of our other courses are at the VUB Main Campus in Elsene.
Our campuses offer every facility you will need for an unforgettable student experience. Student restaurant, cafés, sports infrastructure, party halls, medical service, library, study areas - all within walking distance of each other ... and your classroom!
Take a virtual walk on our campuses
And there's lots to do off-campus. Head off to the centre, find those cosy little brown pubs, soak up the culture and plunge into any of the city's cool, nightlife areas. Adventure is just around the corner. Brussels is home to a great many European institutions, public companies, large and small international businesses... So opportunities for jobs and internships are within easy reach!

Student life
Student life is about more than just studying. It's also about going out, and about partying. Join one of the many student associations. It's the ideal way to immerse yourself in VUB student folklore. And that includes St. Vé, clapping, cantuses and the Vrijzinnig Zangfeest.

Not into all those student rituals? Not a problem. You don't have to join the student union to party. On the VUB campuses in Jette and Etterbeek, parties are held regularly in the party halls and big, white marquee. And let's not forget the VUB Kick-off ... the unofficial start of the academic year, where you get to eat, drink and dance with your fellow students.
