Metro, bus & tram
MIVB / STIB
Do you mainly travel around Brussels by public transport? Then you probably use the MIVB. With a STIB-MIVB travel pass you can take the tram, bus and metro in all of Brussels.
Options
STIB-MIVB school pass
- valid for the entire STIB-MIVB network
- Costs €12 per academic year
- Available until max 24 years old
BRUPASS school pass
- valid for the entire STIB-MIVB network and De Lijn, TEC and SNCB networks in Brussels
- Costs €52 per academic year
Occasional alternatives
- BRUPASS 1- or 10-ride ticket
- Between 11.00 PM and 6.00 AM, the Collecto night taxi is available
Buy
At a BOOTIK shop
- with your electronic ID
- with your enrolment certificate from VUB
online via GO EASY
- log in with your e-ID
- upload your enrolment certificate from VUB
- You can also buy a MOBIB-card and load it with your school pass
Renew
Upload your registration certificate via school.mivb.be
The day after the confirmation, you can load your travel pass onto your MOBIB card at the nearest GO vending machine and pay.
MOBIB card
The reloadable MOBIB card brings together your tickets and subscriptions from the SNCB, STIB-MIVB, De Lijn, TEC, B-parking, Cambio and Villo. This way you don’t have to juggle different cards for different services. You can order a MOBIB card for €6 in a BOOTIK or via Go Easy. The card is valid for 5 years.
Train
Will you commute by train to VUB? If you are younger than 26, you have the choice between two travel pass options. Find out what’s best for you, on belgianrail.be.
Occasionally
Student Multi
- 10-ride card with which you travel a fixed route 2 or 3 times a week within a period of 49 calendar days. Ideal if you live in student housing.
- The price depends on your trajectory. For 10 rides between Gent and Brussels, you pay for example € 13.10.
- Available until max 25 years old.
Are you following an interuniversity programme that involves frequent travel between 2 universities? Then you can apply for a Student Multi for both paths if you submit a certificate proving that you are attending classes on both campuses.
Unlimited
Student pass (+ MOBIB card)
- Unlimited pass for 1, 3 or 12 months on a fixed route.
- The price depends on your trajectory. For a year pass between Gent and Brussels, you pay for example € 363.
- Available until max 25 years old.
This is the cheapest option if you do travel to and from campus 4 or more times a week.
Buy & renew
- You can apply for or renew your NMBS travel pass at an NMBS train station.
- with your enrolment certificate from VUB
- with your e-ID card
- if you don't have a MOBIB card, you can purchase one for € 6

Bus
Will you be coming from Flanders by bus? Then a travel pass with De Lijn may be something for you.
Buzzy Pazz
With the Buzzy Pazz, students can enjoy unlimited travel on all De Lijn transport except the Limburg express lines.
- this pass costs € 215 per year + € 6 for your MOBIB card
- available until max 24 years old
- to be bought online or in a Sales Point (bring your ID card)
