Running and walking on and around campus
The athletics track
The first option is of course running on the VUB athletics track. Are you an avid runner and do you want to run on a 400-metre (6-lane) tartan track? Then the VUB Main Campus in Etterbeek is the place to be. If you have a sports card with active sessions, you can use the track daily from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Please note that at certain times the rugby pitch inside the track hosts other activities. So, check first to see if you are comfortable training at that time. Athletics clubs or schools also use the track. Make sure you do not disturb their training.

The Brussels Athletics Club
A second option is to become a member of the Brussels Athletics Club. This club was founded more than 40 years ago, by several VUB alumni, and now it has more than 300 members. They train on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the athletics track. Everyone is welcome to have fun running under the expert guidance of coaches.
The cross track
You can also run on a series of different surfaces. You can follow the cross track, for example, which is approximately 1,500 m long and zigzags the campus along the route of the Brussels Universities Cyclocross. Our campus has hosted the cross, an event in the X20 trophy, for several years now. Try jogging along the route around the campus - clockwise or anti-clockwise - and discover how one direction is even more challenging than the other. Cross over from entrance 6 to 13 if you want to run only half the route. You can make it as tough as you like. It’s entirely up to you! More experienced and seasoned runners can go from the campus in Etterbeek to Elsene Park, Woluwe Park, Bois de La Cambre and even into the Sonian Forest.
VUB Runs
Every year, VUB Sport organises one or more running activities, often in support of a good cause. We participate in the annual 20 km of Brussels, and every now and then we organise a “start to run” or another type of running activity for groups, under the name “VUB runs”. Click the button below for more info on what other running activities are in the works to support the VUB-UZB Paul De Knop Fund for immunotherapy .
Keep up to date through our Facebook page or our VUB Sport app.
Walking routes
There are no walking-specific facilities on the VUB Health Campus in Jette, but you can walk straight into the beautiful Laarbeekbos and Poelbos forests. Be sure to check out our walking route tips in aid of the Paul De Knop Fund for immunotherapy. These routes are also suitable for jogging.
