Support for study programmes
In the rationale for the quality assurance cycle, support for study programmes is customised wherever possible. This is the orange inner circle of the cycle course. Councils can call on the quality assurance staff for educational guidance and support in the quality assurance processes and with instruments. Because they are members of the course council in an advisory capacity, they form a link between the course councils and Education & Student Affairs (OS). For advice and guidance on a range of topics, study programmes can also refer to the information documents produced by OS, which can be found on the internal channels.
In addition, OS is currently expanding its own expertise in order to provide more targeted assistance to study programmes when it comes to curriculum design and reform.
Support for lecturers
For starting lecturers, we have put together a starter pack full of information and tips and tricks about teaching at VUB. Lecturers can also find information on how to set learning outcomes for their course unit, how to evaluate the extent to which students achieve these learning outcomes, and information on different working methods with which to achieve these outcomes. In order for all of this (learning outcomes, forms of evaluation and working methods) to form a logical whole, alignment or congruence is required.
Other topics include blended learning, differentiated teaching, group work, how to follow up on student feedback and how to make lessons more interactive. For additional background information on teaching in general, we also have many book tips.
Trainings on offer
Through our educational professionalisation activities, we want to actively contribute to the reflection and optimisation process of each lecturer. The range includes training and information sessions, an educational professionalisation path for lecturers, an offer specifically for the Assisting Academic Personnel (AAP) and Scientific and Educational Personnel (WPP) with a teaching assignment, the educational training for assistants. In terms of content, the training available includes various didactic topics, the use of educational media and technology, as well as more policy-related topics. Find out what is currently available through the internal channels at Educational professionalisation and VUB LRN.
Educational innovation
The Vrije Universiteit Brussel is constantly working on optimising its education, among other things by investing heavily in educational innovation. We encourage and facilitate innovation through the financial support of educational innovation projects (OVP), through the expansion of the range of technological possibilities and by improving the infrastructure of our teaching spaces. The professionalisation of our teachers is also central.
