Requirements for a doctoral study programme
Would you like to start a doctoral programme? Then you must have a Belgian master's degree. But other diplomas, for example a Belgian diploma of advanced academic training or a foreign final degree, can also be taken into account. In articles 4-6 of the additional faculty doctoral regulations of the faculty where you wish to do a PhD, you can find out which field of study gives access to which PhD.

Do not hesitate to contact the faculty contact person for PhD students. Does your file not meet the basic requirements? The faculty may require an additional examination to assess the suitability of your application.
Finding a topic
When you apply for a doctorate, you must state the topic of your research. The title need not yet be known, but you must know what the domain and topic of your research will be. Doctoral students often build on their master's thesis and remain in the same research or professional group. During your PhD project, you are not on your own: a supervisor with expertise that matches your research will guide you. Sometimes supervisors state which research topics they wish to supervise.
Funding
We often recruit new researchers on a project basis for research groups. Vacancies for those positions can be found on the websites of the faculty, department, or research group, or on the vacancy website of the personnel department of VUB. You can submit an application for your own project to a funding body such as the FWO or IWT.
