The Go Abroad fair on 19 October 2023 was a big success, with some 400 visitors who dropped by the fair and attended the info session. Besides the VUB International Relations office, there were 18 stands at the fair offering advice and information to anyone interested in going abroad for studies, internships and volunteer work. The info sessions were incredibly popular, and included presentations from different staff members of the International Relations Office, explaining opportunities for students to go abroad. The in-person info session held on 19 October at the Go Abroad Fair was fully booked. If you were unable to attend, you can always send an e-mail to exchange.outgoing@vub.be and ask for the presentation slides.
During the fair there was a chance to win a weekend trip to a European country, and some other exchange-related prizes for runners-up. We believe that offering a weekend trip to a European country perfectly aligns with the spirit of our event. Not only does it encourage participants to explore the possibilities of studying or working abroad, it also gives them a taste of what international experiences can be like, making the idea of exchange opportunities even more appealing.
Going abroad during your study programme is an easy and friendly way towards making your way in the world, literally. The experience you get as a student while studying abroad or doing an internship are unequal and exciting. It’s an opportunity to improve language skills, make friends abroad, and experience different cultures, and of course, sightseeing! Financial concerns shouldn’t be too much of an issue, as VUB manages different grants and scholarships for studies abroad and offers extra financing through social services (e.g. an international allowance). Partner institutions are also selected based on the support they provide students (socio-psychological, etc.)
If you want to know more about going abroad for your studies, internships or for volunteer work, and you missed the Go Abroad Fair at the VUB, then contact your faculty coordinator, check for more information online, or contact the VUB International Relations office (exchange.outgoing@vub.be). Also, don't forget to drop by the Go Abroad Café on 29 November: an informal get together of students who have been abroad, and you can just drop by and have a chat with them about their go abroad adventure. Sneaky snacks and drinks guaranteed! See you there!
