Become a candidate for the student council!
Are you a VUB student who likes to give your own opinion? Do you think it is important that every student can be heard on every level of the university? Moreover, would you like to build a strong network within the VUB? Then apply for a seat on the student council from 22 February!
The student council consists of 20 committed elected students, of which you can be a part. As a member, you make the VUB a better place to study and to have fun. Furthermore, the student council represents the needs of more than 17,000 students at the VUB. For that reason, you are part of a very important body, because your input in small and large decision moments is important for every student!
As a member of the student council, you have an interesting set of tasks. You will be the first to help determine the university's policy. You sit around the table in the largest councils, such as the Academic Council and the University Council. There, you consult with the rector, deans, and employees of the VUB. In addition, you are the voice of the VUB students. For example, the Student Council regularly launches surveys about the student community. The results of these online surveys provide insights into the needs and wishes of the VUB students. Based on these insights, the university can offer concrete solutions to meet these needs and wishes. For example, the student council provided free earplugs during TDs, a barbecue area on the campuses, and a graduation ceremony for international students. Finally, you also defend those needs and wishes on an external basis. For example, the student council arranged a night bus between Etterbeek campus and the city, and as a member of the Flemish Student Association (VVS) it wrote a series of recommendations for the new Flemish and federal government leaders. All these tasks ensure that you, as a member, make the VUB a better university!
But that's not all: not only the VUB gets better from someone like you as a student representative. Also, you as a person can go through a great growth process. You will undoubtedly learn a lot about meeting skills, time management, networking, and defending viewpoints. So don't hesitate and apply for the student council! This year's elections take place from 26 April to 2 May. You can sign up for the election as of 22 February.
